2025春 桜、桜、桜【Nagakute Times】
2025年春、長久手にある桜があちこちで花を咲かせています。杁ヶ池公園などにある四季桜は別として、品種によって満開になる時期は1〜２週間程は異なりますので出逢った時に感じるのが一番でしょう。

上郷・大草の「根尾谷薄墨桜」
長久手市には、日本三大桜の一つ岐阜県の「根尾谷淡墨桜」から植樹された「淡墨桜二世」が４カ所あります。東部里山エリアに２カ所、中央の岩作エリアに２カ所です。場所によっては石碑があるので確認できます。とくに里山エリアの上郷にある２カ所は、ふつうに散歩しているだけではまず分からない場所で、長久手市民にもあまり知られていないようです。
植樹は1977年（昭和52年）。すでに45年以上が経ち、それぞれが成長し見事な淡墨の桜を咲かせています。
「日本三大桜」とは、山梨県の「山高神代桜」、岐阜県の「根尾谷薄墨桜」、福島県の「三春滝桜」とされています。どちらも大正時代に制定された「史跡名勝天然記念物保存法」に沿って選ばれ、＜国の天然記念物＞に指定されています。樹齢が1000年以上、幹回りが9メートル以上などが選定の基準になっています。 長久手への植樹は、1977年（昭和52年）なのでまだ45年程。幹周りはまだ１m50cm程でしょうか。
後に埼玉県の「石戸蒲桜」、静岡県の狩宿の「下馬桜」が加わり、「日本五大桜」とも呼ばれるようになりました。
